Like many people, I was excited to see what the two headed monster of David Wilson and Andre Brown could do. Wilson was being drafted a little too early for my liking, but I wanted to try and have Brown on my team because I thought he was going to be a goaline beast. I was able to pick him up in the later rounds, and I was pondering whether he would be able to move past a flex option to a full time starter. Those thoughts of the future were quickly cut short when Brown injured his left fibula in the preseason. Now with Brown eyeing a return in Week 10, I wanted to try to make sense of what is going on for the Giant’s running game going forward.
David Wilson- Wilson has not played since Week 5, and to make room for Brown, many analysts are thinking that Wilson will be placed on season ending injury reserve for Brown. While Wilson did not need season ending neck surgery, there is no timetable for his return. If you are still holding onto Wilson, you may want to cut him and make some room on your bench.
Brandon Jacobs- He has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, but before he was injured he ran for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns against the Bears in Week 6.
Peyton Hillis- While not putting up the flashiest of numbers, Hillis has been somewhat fantasy relevant with a touchdown in Week 7, and rushing for 70 yards in Week 8.
Michael Cox- He received 11 touches in Week 7 and 9 touches in Week 8, but he failed to turn them into anything. Other than putting Wilson on injury reserve, the general consensus is that the may cut Jacobs or Cox.
What you will most likely see is some combo of Hillis or Jacobs with Brown thrown into the mix. These backs aren’t known for their speed, so the ball may just end up going to whoever is healthy enough to play. Keep your expectations for Brown on the mild side when he first returns, but you may want to have him on your bench so you can find out what type of performances he may be able to give fantasy owners. He is currently owned in 19% of ESPN leagues.
