2015 Fantasy Football: Martavis Bryant Impresses at OTAs

In 2014 Fantasy Football leagues, Martavis Bryant was known for following a huge performance with a big stinker.

In 2015 Fantasy Football leagues, however, this may not be the case. Bryant has gained 10 pounds, but he apparently has trained in MMA and spent time running in sand pits to improve mobility. All of that sounds impressive, but will it help him find more consistent result?

Wide receiver Markus Wheaton was a favorite among sleeper fans entering 2014 but I wasn’t so sure. The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t known for producing two elite receivers in a season, and I didn’t believe he was worth the pick from the data I reviewed. You can see my original article here but here is the data.

Brown had a good year in 2011 as far as receiving yards, but his touchdown totals did hold him back in terms of Fantasy production.

The data was a little different in 2014 with Le’Veon Bell very active in the passing attack, but you can still see that the offense did not support a true second stud at the wide receiver position.

Receiver Jerricho Cotchery hauled in an impressive 10 touchdowns in 2013, but he only finished the year with 602 receiving yards. Bryant was just like Cotchery, as he had eight touchdowns but only 540 receiving yards. Bell faces a three-game suspension, and I think that is promising for Bryant owners at the start of the season.

Veteran DeAngelo Williams is serviceable, but he obviously can’t provide the same type of value as Bell. I think the passing attack will be very heavy, and Bryant is going to be one of the receivers Ben Roethlisberger depends on at the early start of the year. I do think that will make him a nice candidate for a few daily contests on DraftKings or FanDuel early on but that’s down the road.

With all his work Bryant may be able to buck the trend, but the data from the past few years does not want to work in his favor.
