Last week was a great football week and almost everything was going according to plan…until Larry Fitzgerald happened. Two words: NEVER AGAIN! Let’s just say he cost me a good bit of money last Monday night but enough with the negativity! All positive vibes moving forward for Week 8. On to the money!
Week 8 DraftKings and FanDuel Quarterbacks
Cam Newton
Embed from Getty Images$6800 (DraftKings) $8000 (FanDuel)
O/U 47 CAR – 6.5
Expected Ownership: 14.5%
Cam is coming off a bad game last week against the Philadelphia Eagles but still managed to put up 16.9 fantasy points even with three interceptions. Newton has been very solid from a fantasy standpoint, and he draws a very favorable matchup against the weak defense of the Indianapolis Colts. The Panthers are at home on Monday Night Football and have one of the highest team totals of the week at 26.75. I am expecting a huge game from Newton both passing and with his legs. He has a rushing touchdown in back-to-back games, and I think he has a safe floor of 20 points in Week 8.
Andy Dalton
Embed from Getty Images$6000 (DraftKings) $8100 (FanDuel)
O/U 48.5 CIN + 1
Expected Ownership: 15%
Dalton is having a career year so far this season, and I don’t expect the “Red Rifle” to cool down this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think Dalton is in a great spot this week with the favorable matchup coming off his bye week. I expect this game to be a shoot out and will be targeting both offenses in this game assuming Ben Roethlisberger will play.
Aside from the two mentioned above, I really like Drew Brees this week at home against the New York Giants. I think he is a great tournament play in Week 8 and will probably be overlooked. I will also have some exposure to Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan and Andrew Luck. I think people are focusing solely on how bad Luck has been playing but not realizing that from a fantasy standpoint, he has been very solid. I think that makes this a good spot to capitalize on him in tournaments where he is likely to be low owned.
Week 8 DraftKings and FanDuel Running Backs
Devonta Freeman
Embed from Getty Images$8000 (DraftKings) $9100 (FanDuel)
O/U 48.5 ATL – 7.5
Expected Ownership: 25%
Freeman is pretty much an auto play at this point in the season. He has been on an absolute tear since taking over the lead back job in Atlanta. His ownership should actually be somewhat lower than we are used to seeing him at because he failed to score last week but still managed 27 touches and 100+ rushing yards. He draws a great matchup this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons are at home and favored by over a touchdown, so Freeman is without a doubt my number top running back of Week 8.
Justin Forsett
Embed from Getty Images$6100 (DraftKings) $6900 (FanDuel)
O/U 50.5 BAL – 3.5
Expected Ownership: 18.3%
Forsett draws the best matchup of all this week against the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers’ defense has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs so far this season, and Forsett is very underpriced this week. I don’t see a scenario where he does not exceed value this week in what should be a high scoring affair.
Aside from my two favorite running backs above, Todd Gurley will be another popular play that I will have some exposure too. I also think Le’Veon Bell is being overlooked this week with Big Ben probable to return. I will also have some shares of Giovani Bernard, Danny Woodhead and Reggie Bush in tournaments.
Week 8 DraftKings and FanDuel Wide Receivers
DeAndre Hopkins
Embed from Getty Images$8700 (DraftKings) $9000 (FanDuel)
O/U 42.5 HOU – 4
Expected Ownership: 16.2%
Many people will be off Hopkins after his uninspiring five catches for 60 yards last week. I will not be one of those people! I am going to be very overweight on Hopkins this week as I think this is a great bounce back spot against the Tennessee Titans. With Arian Foster out for the season, Nuk should be ready to see all the targets he could handle and he is in line for a monster game against that weak Titans’ secondary.
AJ Green
Embed from Getty Images$7600 (DraftKings) $8200 (FanDuel)
O/U 48.5 CIN + 1
Expected Ownership: 10.6%
Green is my top tournament play at wide receiver in Week 8. Much of it is for the same reasons I like Dalton in Week 8. Aside from that, I don’t think any cornerback on the Steelers’ roster is going to be able to contain Green. Let’s not forget that his 224-yard performance came against the Steelers last December. Look for this one to be a shootout with Green heavily involved.
Aside from those guys, Julio Jones is another great play this week. I also really like Odell Beckham Jr. as an under the radar tournament play against the New Orleans Saints. If you are not going to be on Hopkins this week, then I at least suggest you get on board with the Nate Washington revenge game. Washington has averaged 11 targets per games that he has played this season. I will also have some exposure to Antonio Brown, Michael Floyd and Brandin Cooks.
Week 8 DraftKings and FanDuel Tight Ends
Greg Olsen
Embed from Getty Images$6500 (DraftKings) $6400 (FanDuel)
O/U 47 CAR – 6.5
Expected Ownership: 17.2%
Olsen is one of the few elite plays at the tight end position this week. If you are playing Cam on Week 8 Monday Night Football, than it is imperative that you stack him with Olsen. I think both are in for a big game this week against a very weak Colts’ secondary. I don’t think Olsen will see any Vontae Davis on him and that is the only corner that has a chance at stopping Olsen for the Colts.
Ladarius Green
Embed from Getty Images$3000 (DraftKings) $5300 (FanDuel)
O/U 50.5 SD + 3.5
Expected Ownership: 35%
Assuming Antonio Gates is ruled out, Green will be one of the most popular plays of the week and for good reason. The Chargers/Ravens game is going to be a shootout. It is a no brainer that Green will see his fair share of targets if Gates is not on the field. At minimum price on DraftKings, there is no reason to play any other tight end this week.
D/ST
There are not many standout chalk plays at defense this week aside from the St. Louis Rams. I do think they are in a good spot against the San Francisco 49ers, but I will be looking elsewhere in tournaments. I really think the Green Bay Packers are an intriguing tournament play this week against Peyton Manning’s noodle arm and the Denver Broncos. I expect this game to be a strong defensive battle with the Packers having a slight edge. I also could be talked into the Atlanta Falcons’ D/ST as a tournament play against turnover prone Jameis Winston and Tampa Bay.
Top Stacks for Week 8:
Andy Dalton – AJ Green
Cam Newton – Greg Olsen
Matt Ryan – Julio Jones
Drew Brees – Brandin Cooks
Top Fades for Week 8:
Carson Palmer
Marshawn Lynch
Dez Bryant
Jimmy Graham
Seattle D/ST
BOLD PREDICTION: AJ Green will be the number one fantasy WR this week!
