Tight end Vernon Davis was reportedly being featured more the past two weeks because the San Francisco 49ers wanted to show him off for interested teams. Apparently, the Denver Broncos like what they saw.
Embed from Getty ImagesThis news comes just a day after Peyton Manning looked like a new player against the Green Bay Packers. Looking at the stats for tight ends Owen Daniels and Virgil Green, it’s easy to see why some Fantasy players aren’t very optimistic about this move.
Player | Receptions | Receiving Yards | Touchdowns |
Owen Daniels | 32 | 129 | 2 |
Virgil Green | 8 | 99 | 1 |
Manning has only thrown seven touchdown passes this season, however, so Daniels and Green have accounted for 42% of Manning’s touchdown passes. But, fantasy players shouldn’t be scared away from Davis because of Daniels and Green. Daniels is a 32-year old tight end who is probably at his last stop, and Green has mostly been relied on as a blocker throughout his time in Denver.
Davis operating as a potential replacement for Julius Thomas is the main reason why Davis is worth taking a risk on. Even though he never racked up an amazing amount of receiving yards, Thomas did pull in 24 touchdowns in 27 games.
With the playoffs just around the corner, you aren’t going to find a player with as much upside as Davis just hanging around on waivers. Dump anybody who is underperforming and pick up Davis now.
