I am going to rattle off some of my notes I took down from the Thursday night game. Ready? Start Reading!
– MJD looked like the old MJD bouncing off of would be tacklers, finding holes, and breaking off nice runs. He did leave the game with what later was revealed as a hamstring injury, so that is something to keep an eye on. Even leaving the game early though, MJD managed to rush for over 100 yards and had two catches for 20 yards in the receiving game. The Jags will face Buffalo(currently 24th against the run) and the Titans(currently 17th against the run) for their next two games, so as long as he is healthy. MJD should be able to have a strong finish to the season.
–Cecil Shorts only had 13 receiving yards, but he did have a touchdown and tied for the second most targets on the team. Henne chucked the long ball for Shorts several times, and they almost connected on a huge pass that would have went for a touchdown where Shorts had beat the coverage, but Henne just over threw him. With the amount of targets that Shorts received, he will get his if Henne keeps looking to him.
– I don’t think Ace Sanders would ever win the starting quarterback job in Jacksonville, but on a little trickery he did throw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Todman. I have mentioned a few weeks ago how I think Sanders is someone who is worthy of a spot on your bench, and I am looking at him for my draft next year. Along with his touchdown pass, he was involved in the rushing, receiving, and return game. If the Jaguars can continually find ways to get Sanders involved in each game, he could end up as a great flex option.
– We had a Matt Schaub sighting last night, and Garret Graham was the major benefactor from this switch at quarterback. Case Keenum had shown Graham a few looks, but Graham was Schaub’s go to guy. Graham finished his night with 8 catches off of 14 targets, 73 receiving yards, and a touchdown. Schaub thew a 4th quarter interception that spoiled his earlier performance, but it seems that this was just a move to shake things up. Keep an eye if there are any changes for starting quarterback in Houston for next week.
Those were my three big takeaways.
Were there any performances that suprised you? Do you think MJD is back to his old self?
