For Week 2 of the NFL season, there are many different directions that you can go for your quarterback spot in daily fantasy leagues. Let’s dive in and take a look at a few guys that can provide you value in H2H and 50/50 leagues, as well as some lower-value guys that can give you an advantage in GPP tournaments if you play your cards right. All dollar amounts shown for player value are courtesy of FanDuel
Drew Brees ($9,400), QB New Orleans Saints at Cleveland
In my book, Brees should be the top fantasy point performer for quarterbacks this week. Brees looked sharp in the Saints season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, throwing for 333 yards and one touchdown. As the Saints travel to Cleveland to face a Browns’ defense that allowed 330 yards to Ben Roethlisberger in Week 1, he should be in line to put up similar or greater numbers this week. I think that Brees is worth the price tag in any H2H or 50/50 league, but should only be paired with Jimmy Graham or Brandin Cooks if you are looking to play him in a GPP tournament, solely based on the seer volume of players that will look for Brees to lead their team.
Robert Griffin III ($7,800), QB Washington Redskins vs. Jacksonville
A lot of people want to flag Griffin as a bust after a mediocre Week 1 performance against Houston, but don’t be alarmed. The Texans are one of the most improved units in the league, and Griffin lost one of his favorite targets in TE Jordan Reed early in the second quarter to a hamstring injury. Still, Griffin was able to complete 73% of his passes for 267 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. With another week of practice to develop chemistry with deep threat DeSean Jackson, I expect Griffin to air it out early and often this week in a favorable match-up against an average Jacksonville secondary. Griffin could be a sneaky play in H2H matchups, and is a great option in GPP tournaments this week.
Jay Cutler ($8,100), QB Chicago Bears at San Francisco
This is my bold move for the week. Everyone and their mother will be staying away from any Bears’ player not named Matt Forte with a Sunday night battle against the 49ers. However, I think that the 49ers defense is more average than what it displayed in Dallas in Week 1, and Cutler has a great chance to exploit that. Cutler finished ninth among quarterbacks in fantasy point production this past week, with 349 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Pairing him with either Brandon Marshall or Alshon Jeffery would be a smart move in a GPP tournament, but I am staying away from him in H2H and 50/50 leagues this week.
Carson Palmer ($6,900) QB Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants
Palmer looked great on Monday Night Football against the Chargers in Week 1, throwing for 304 yards and two scores on 24 of 37 passing attempts. He seemed to have a great connection with WR Michael Floyd on deep routes, and I don’t expect Larry Fitzgerald to be held to one reception for 22 yards against a Giants’ defense that looked absolutely dreadful against the Lions. Look for Palmer to be inside the top-10 for quarterbacks this week. His relatively cheap price tag makes him a great play for GPP players that have a buy low/high reward philosophy. Pairing Palmer with Floyd and Fitzgerald in a H2H or 50/50 league would be a nice play as well.
