Carlos Hyde has been ruled out for Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams with a stress fracture.
Embed from Getty ImagesReggie Bush has dealt with a calf injury for most of the season, but he was able to take the field in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. He finished with four carries for 21 yards and caught three passes for 13 yards.
Rugby star Jarryd Hayne and rookie Mike Davis are expected to see a few carries as well.
This could be an opportunity for Davis to start, however, so don’t be surprised to see him receive a large workload if he has the hot hand over Bush.
At the start of the 2015 Fantasy Football season, I viewed Mike Davis as a deep sleeper because of his dual-threat abilities. He isn’t going to be a shifty pass-catching back like Giovani Bernard, but he is a much stronger pass catcher than Hyde. Davis is a powerful back like Hyde, but he brings more to the table because of his skills as a receiver. In college at South Carolina, the 22-year old back had a very successful career.
Player | Year | Rushing Yards | Receiving Yards |
Mike Davis | 2012 | 275 | 35 |
Mike Davis | 2013 | 1,183 | 352 |
Mike Davis | 2014 | 982 | 368 |
Of course, whoever gets the start is going to have a tough matchup. The Rams’ defense has only allowed three rushing touchdowns this season.
Hyde currently doesn’t have a timetable for his return.
