Tony Romo Out With Broken Bone in Back for the Start of the 2016 Fantasy Football Season

As you know by now, Tony Romo has a broken bone in his back that could sideline him for six-10 weeks, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

I had to already hit the waiver wire, as I drafted Tony on three of my 2016 Fantasy Football teams. I also drafted Tom Brady on one of those teams and had Romo penciled in as the starter for Weeks 1-4, so I had to make some moves.

There was only one league where I was relying on Romo heavily, as Robert Griffin III is my backup. So for the most part, most of my teams are protected.

The bigger issue, though, is I have Dez Bryant on one of my teams and weak depth behind him.

This also creates an issue if you play DFS on DraftKings or FanDuel.

Bryant is the eighth-most expensive receiver on FanDuel at $8,000, and he is the fourth-most expensive wide receiver on DraftKings at $8,500.

Through two preseason games, Bryant has hauled in two touchdowns from Dak Prescott, so the two have at least shown some rapport. And compared to the options Dallas had at backup quarterback last season (Matt Cassel, Kellen Moore, Brandon Weeden), the bar is at a reasonable level for Prescott (even as a rookie) to at least match the backup predecessors in terms of production.

But Prescott also has much more upside than the former backups, as he is a dual-threat quarterback.

Week 1 in DFS is already tough to predict since it’s a fresh start. And this situation is especially difficult to predict because we have a rookie quarterback thrown into a starting role.

You’re obviously starting Bryant in your season long leagues no matter what. But in terms of DFS, because of the price, there are better receivers around the price tag for conservative players to look.

If you don’t mind rolling the dice, Bryant can still be productive under Prescott and will most likely have a lower ownership percentage than he would have with Romo leading the attack.
