Tight end Vance McDonald has been placed on IR because of a shoulder injury.
He only caught two passes for nine yards in Week 13 before exiting the game against the Chicago Bears.

Hopefully, you weren’t relying on McDonald in your 2016 Fantasy Football playoffs. He’s only averaged 35.5 receiving yards per game, and he only has four touchdown catches for the season.
McDonald was a deep sleeper heading into 2016. That’s because he had a string of good games in 2015.
Week | Receptions | Receiving Yards | Touchdowns |
11 | 4 | 65 | 1 |
12 | 6 | 71 | 1 |
16 | 5 | 61 | 1 |
He was also a sleeper because there wasn’t a whole lot of players for any quarterback on the 49ers to target in the passing attack.
McDonald’s Fantasy value is murky right now because Colin Kaepernick could still be the starting quarterback for the 49ers not season. It doesn’t seem likely, but Kaepernick may not find a very warm market if he tries to test the waters.
If Blaine Gabbert is the starting quarterback next year, McDonald’s value will be limited. With a 2017 NFL quarterback draft class that isn’t considered particularly deep, McDonald’s value looks less appealing with a rookie under center in Week 1.

Right now, that looks like a long shot for the 49ers in 2017.
